Illinois building codes for roof replacement
Illinois has no mandatory statewide residential code. What applies depends on the jurisdiction that issues the permit.
As of 1/1/2025, code enforcing jurisdictions must enforce requirements equal to the minimum stringency the IBC and IRC editions published over the preceding 9 calendar years. In non-code enforcing jurisdictions, IBC-regulated construction must conform to one of the two most recent IBC editions, and a contract to build new residential construction must adopt as part of the contract one of the two most recent IRC editions.
