Massachusetts building codes for roof replacement
Massachusetts enforces a residential code statewide.
The 10th edition of the Massachusetts State Building Code is a statewide mandatory building code based upon the 2021 IBC and 2021 IRC. It was adopted on 5/14/2024 and became fully effective after the transition period ended on 10/11/2024. The 9th edition, which used the 2015 IBC and 2015 IRC, was effective from 10/20/2017 to 10/10/2024, allowing a brief overlap period with the 10th edition for transition. The 8th edition used the 2009 IBC and 2009 IRC and was effective until 12/31/2017, allowing a brief overlap period with the 9th edition for transition.
