Mississippi building codes for roof replacement
Mississippi has no mandatory statewide residential code. What applies depends on the jurisdiction that issues the permit.
Mississippi Code § 17-2-4 requires local jurisdictions to adopt as minimum codes one of the last 3 editions of the IBC and IRC as adopted and amended by the Mississippi Building Codes Council (MBCC), which currently means the 2015, 2018, and 2024 editions. Section 17-2-1 requires coastal counties (Jackson, Harrison, Hancock, Stone, and Pearl River) and all municipalities located in them to enforce all wind and flood mitigation requirements of the 2003 IBC and IRC, unless later editions are adopted by local authorties; however, this statute also included a 60-day opt out provision.
