Rhode Island building codes for roof replacement
Rhode Island enforces a residential code statewide.
The latest editions of the Rhode Island State Building Code and State One and Two Family Dwelling Code are based on the 2021 IBC and the 2021 IRC, respectively, are effective as of 12/1/2025, and are mandatory statewide. The previous editions were based on the 2018 IBC & IRC and were effective from 2/1/2022 to 11/30/2025. The previous editions were based on the 2015 IBC and the 2015 IRC, respectively, and were effective from 8/1/2019 to 1/31/2022. The previous editions before that were based on the 2012 IBC and the 2012 IRC, respectively, and were effective from 7/1/2013 to 7/31/2019.
