South Dakota building codes for roof replacement

South Dakota has no mandatory statewide residential code. What applies depends on the jurisdiction that issues the permit.

South Dakota has no mandatory statewide building or residential code. Building codes are governed at the local jurisdiction level. Where no local building code has been adopted, the 2021 IBC applies to new non-residential construction. When adopting a new local building code or residential code, jurisdictions must use the 2021 IBC or 2021 IRC, respectively, but may modify the codes as they choose.
