Vermont building codes for roof replacement

Vermont has no mandatory statewide residential code. What applies depends on the jurisdiction that issues the permit.

The latest edition of the Vermont Fire and Building Safety Code is based on the 2021 IBC (effective 11/6/2025) and is mandatory statewide. The previous edition of the Vermont Fire and Building Safety Code was based on the 2015 IBC (effective 10/10/2016 to 11/5/2025) and was mandatory statewide. The previous edition before that was based on the 2012 IBC. Vermont has no mandatory statewide residential code.
