Impact-resistant hip & ridge cap

Standard cap is equivalent.

How to answer it

The two are not the same product. Owens Corning states that ImpactRidge is required to complete a UL 2218 and/or FM 4473 Class 4 impact-resistant roof system, so a standard cap on an impact-rated field is not like kind and quality. Attach the manufacturer page for the shingle actually installed and name the product; different manufacturers word this differently and the carrier can check. Argue the system, not the premium — what a homeowner's insurance would do about a rating is not the contractor's argument to make.

Put this in the supplement before they ask

Where the field shingle is an impact-rated product, the cap specified by that manufacturer to complete the rated system is a different product from standard cap.
