Hip / ridge cap

Included in the shingle line — the tear-off item already covers ridge cap removal, and cap replacement comes out of the shingle waste.

How to answer it

Two separate things are being argued; answer both. QUANTITY: the ridge and hip line in the measurement report gives the linear footage. PRODUCT: on architectural / dimensional shingles the cap is a separate manufactured accessory and is not cut from a field shingle, so the shingle waste does not carry it — name the cap product the manufacturer specifies. Read the tear-off line description before you send: many tear-off items already include cap REMOVAL, so claim replacement only and do not ask for the same removal twice. WARNING — one carrier guideline on file allows a separate cap line only on architectural / dimensional shingles and puts it inside the shingle waste on 3-tab (Citizens Property Insurance, 2023 Best Claims Practices and Estimating Guidelines, p. 25). Confirm the field shingle type first. In State Farm's own estimate, filed by State Farm as Exhibit 5 to its Notice of Removal in Brown v. State Farm Fire & Cas. Co., No. 5:22-cv-00971-R (W.D. Okla.), ridge cap and starter course were each priced as a separate line item from the field shingle, each carrying its own age/life schedule. That filing is one carrier's estimate on one file, not a court ruling — the case closed administratively without any decision on the point.

Put this in the supplement before they ask

Ridge and hip length is measured separately from the field area, and on architectural / dimensional shingles the cap is a manufactured accessory rather than a field shingle cut on site.
